FAI started in Noventa Vicentina in 1963 and throughout the next several years the name changed to FKI after 1995 and eventually became Komatsu Utility Europe in 2000. During the forty years of existence, FAI produced backhoe loaders, articulated backhoe loaders, wheeled loaders, skid steer loaders, and mini excavators. They also produced for a short period of time tracked loaders, tracked and wheeled dozers and all-terrain forklifts. In 1988 Fai begin to build Komatsu mini excavators under license and Komatsu became a small shareholder shortly after in 1989. It wasn’t until September 1995 that Komatsu took full control and the company was renamed FKI FAI Komatsu SpA. The heavy equipment units were then sold as FAI Komatsu products and painted in the Komatsu yellow. In 1997 the FAI name was dropped and all products were branded just as Komatsu.
